Turn on Predictions

Switch Predictions on for a brand's traders, and give your team the permissions to run it.

Predictions is off everywhere until it is deliberately turned on, and three things have to line up before a trader sees it: your firm must hold the product, the brand must offer it, and your operators must be permitted to run it. Each is independent — none of them implies another.

Prerequisites

  • Your firm has been entitled to Predictions by your platform provider.
  • You are signed in to the Backoffice with a role that grants the Manage brands permission, and — for the permissions step — the Manage permissions permission.

Step 1 — Your firm holds the product

Whether your firm may offer Predictions at all is set for you by your platform provider, not from inside your own Backoffice. Contact your account manager to have it enabled.

You can tell at a glance whether it is in place:

  • If your firm holds the product, a Predictions section appears in the Backoffice navigation and a Predictions card appears in the brand editor.
  • If it does not, opening a Predictions screen shows an explanatory page saying the firm is not entitled to the product, rather than an error. Your team can look, there is simply nothing to govern yet.

Step 2 — Offer it on a brand

Turning the product on for your firm does not show it to anybody. Each brand opts in separately, so you can pilot Predictions on one brand before offering it more widely.

  1. Open Brands and click the brand you want to change.
  2. Go to the Client Zone tab, then the Themes sub-tab.
  3. Find the Predictions card and turn on Show Predictions to this brand's traders.
  1. Save the brand.

The Predictions entry appears in that brand's WebTrader on desktop and on mobile — the two are always in step, so you never have to enable them separately. The change reaches traders within about a minute; nothing needs to be restarted or redeployed.

Note

The Predictions card is shown only when your firm holds the product. On a brand belonging to a firm that does not, the card is absent rather than disabled.

Step 3 — Let your team run it

Predictions permissions are granted the same way as any other area, in a permission group. Two things must be true of the same group:

  • On the Roles tab, grant the Predictions capabilities the group's members need. They are deliberately split, so a real desk can separate duties:
Capability What it admits
View Read every Predictions screen, without changing anything
Catalog Publish, pause, resume, and retire listings, accept a source's revised rules, write featured copy, and set the country-by-category matrix
Pricing Create, activate, and retire pricing and commission policies
Risk Edit the firm's hard exposure ceilings
Reserve Allocate the firm's Predictions capital and propose, approve, or cancel a withdrawal
Operations Hold and release new selling, and acknowledge a reconciliation exception
Settlement Act on a held or corrected settlement run
Propose correction / Approve correction Propose and approve a compensating correction after a payout — always two different people
Audit Read the Predictions audit trail and the reconciliation exceptions
  • On the Resources tab, make sure the group reaches the Predictions area of the firm.

A group that grants the capability but not the area — or the area but not the capability — grants nothing. Splitting the two across two groups does not work either; they must meet in one group.

Note

A couple of these capabilities govern actions that have no screen of their own in this release — acting on a held settlement run, and proposing or approving a correction. Granting one now is harmless.

Act as yourself

Every Predictions action is refused while you are signed in as another user. Viewing a customer's screen that way still works; publishing, pricing, moving reserve capital, holding new selling, and acknowledging an exception do not. Sign back in as yourself to act.

What a trader has to do

Nothing. There is no separate sign-up. Once the brand offers Predictions, the entry point is in the trader's WebTrader; a prediction account is created for them the first time they need one. See What your traders see.
